Yellowstone, day two
Day two was a gorgeous day in Yellowstone. The day started out cold, but eased into a beautiful fall day---chilly, but perfect.
The kids are doing great with their homework. Paul completed two video blogs for his History Day paper and filmed 5-6 segments while we were out at Hayden Expedition sites.
Our youngest is busy adding to her naturalist journal, which now includes coyote, bison, and chipmunks along with her earlier elk, moose, and osprey. (We saw more than that, but she can only add so many in a day!)
Virginia has been busy studying thermophiles, reporting that they were only discovered in Yellowstone in 1966 (by Thomas D. Brock, she coaches me). She's been explaining the differences in color in biomats and hot springs. Reports will go into the family scrapbook for sure.
Greg's hiking objectives were well-met today, with hikes at Midway Geyser Basin, Lewis Falls, and West Thumb Geyser Basin (in addition to the longer walks he went on by Hebgen Lake this morning).
Me? I'm getting in my writing and my notes---much more to flesh out when I get home.
And now for pictures. (Yay!)

More tomorrow! So happy to hear from those of you traveling with us from home.
Wowie, that coyote is fat and sassy!
ReplyDeleteYes. The coyotes clearly had been eating well all summer. We often go in the spring and they look scrawny and hungry. In the fall they have some spunk.
