What is #amwriting?

#amwriting is a hashtag. If you don’t know what a hashtag is, you’re not alone.  I like this article about hashtags from Twitter Moms because the writer doesn’t just explain what a hashtag is. She also explains why you might care about hashtags.  http://bit.ly/bnyRh

#amwriting is an ongoing chat.  You’re not expected to stay tuned-in constantly.  The chat happens in the background of your writing day.  It is a virtual watercooler for writers, a place you can hang out and talk to other writers about your current writing projects (and theirs) and then you get back to work.  You are expected to pop in and out of chat as you write, so no one thinks anything of it if you disappear into your writing.

#amwriting is a community. The writers here care about one another.  We have a community directory available at http://www.amwriters.com and an Amazon-affiliated store, The Amwriters Store, where you can buy books and novellas from your #amwriting colleagues. (If you post using the #amwriting hashtag, you are welcome to submit your bio to the directory & have your books listed in the store. More information is available on the first page of the directory. You can also read the directory announcement from this blog.)

#amwriting is a shortened version of “I am writing.”  It began as a call-out every morning, when I would ask writers who was writing.  It grew from there to a non-stop chat.  I still do the writer roll-call every morning, but the group does not rely on me to do so.  For more on the origins of #amwriting, see “Happy birthday, #amwriting!”

#amwriting is one of many writing hashtags. @inkyelbows keeps a great list and she also provides information about chat clients that might be helpful to you.  Her website directory is here:  http://bit.ly/16FHrb
